Benefits of insoles/orthotics,

Besides the gait lab I have a manufacturing room were I make all my own insoles (orthotics), most often the patient is able to walk away with insoles made there and then to suit their individual feet and address their problem. These vary from custom modified insoles to bespoke ones were a cast of the foot is taken and an insole is made for the exact fit of the foot. The fact that I manufacture considerably reduces the costs of the insoles overall and allows me to provide insoles for most footwear including running spikes, football/rugby boots, training shoes and everyday school and work shoes. Even ladies fashion shoes to an extent.

Insoles can be used to address such problems as:

Leg length discrepancies.
Over pronation or “flat feet”.
Sports injuries such as shin splints, compartment syndrome, calf pain and overloading of the ball of the foot etc.
Tendon and muscle strains.
Heel pain including plantar fasciitis and Achilles problems.
Child development problems such as Severs (heel pain) and Osgood Schlatters (knee pain). Both conditions are often seen in active/sporting children.
Big toe joint pain including bunions.
Metatarsal area problems.
Knee, hip and back pain.
Arthritis discomfort incl both osteo and Rheumatoid and others.
Many other lower limb musculoskeletal problems.

They work by bringing the foot back into alignment and therefore reducing stress on muscles, ligaments and joints from the feet up the body to the head and provide cushion and shock absorption. Advice is always given to advise the wearer on how to wear them in. People of all ages and activity levels can benefit from orthotics from active children, serious runners and athletes, weekend warriors and the older person were there may be balance and mobility problems.
